Precipice

Contributed by Theuri on Thursday, 10th July 2014 @ 02:06:08 AM in AEST
Topic: StoryPoetry

This is the precipice, a single sharp tone.
Which first and which last? This is unknown.
The heart bursts forth, burning though alone,
And the monster bites, but has yet to break bone.

Dark struggles, held within so long,
Escape now through a scream, not song.
Minds falter, hearts give sway,
Souls shatter, and bodies decay.
Yet still this battle standard holds!
To love, fight, forgive, be bold!
Become better than ever before,
And allow no demon to knock down our door.

Chains and stones they piled high,
Forgetting I'd already claimed the hearts from their chests.
I hear their false songs, while they think I sigh.
All this while knowing, they'll never feel what's best.
Love is a feast for a dragon's soul,
To eat one's feelings makes a dragon whole.
So come ye knights, who think ye've won,
And I'll fill my belly for a thousand setting suns.

The mist within, as cold as that without,
I fought the beast, I saw his mouth.
My armor broken, spirit torn,
I wander home, try not to mourn.
A shell of me was left behind,
The shell of he, was left to dine.

A sad tales end, these words are not,
There's still a battle to be fought.
Fat or famished, that beast will burn!
And codes once lost, in hearts will yearn.
Just one strength, not all men guide
Both dark and light, are a warrior's side.
Chivalry lost, must now return.

This dragon again, those fools will burn.

This tone now held... Inside my head,
does sing the song of these two threads.
Which came first I do not know,
And which will last, is yet to show.

For now I'll close my eyes, and listen to their tones... These fierce forces, both unknown.
