We sat alone in total fear
both wrapped in smiles of brittle cheer
with no way out without a fuss
and sitting days upon a bus
The tube was set, we all observed
a process seen but seldom heard
I turned and smiled, my eyes attuned
for panicked thoughts within the room
The captain spoke, and all did sit
the wheels rolled on, the wing-tips blipped
the engines whimpered as we rolled
traversing to the starting stalls
A final turn, the silent call
the engines roar above it all
the bird released, there's no way back
she hits the air with full attack
I count the seconds, grind my teeth
too many pass without relief
the road must end, there is surprise
against my judgement, then we rise
The crackling roar removes the ground
the minutes pass, but still astound
the clouds fall down like wispy blinds
my throat is dry, I can't unwind
I turn around and smile once more
your smiling back, a poor encore
the tension grappled by my pride
will surely put me on the slide
I say a joke, but barely hear
my head is fuzzy, engines near
we reach the top and level up
a pretty lady fills my cup
I count the minutes, fear the turns
the wobbles, bangs, I never learn
my watch face offers little hope
the belt released, I start to walk
what do you do within this place?
I queue to only wash my face
the mirror shows me what I am;
a cocky, frightened little man.

Had to smile at this. For someone who has no fear of flying it was a good insight into the mind of someone who it fills with terror.
They do say air travel is statistically safer than car travel.
I know that isn't much comfort though!!
