The Sleeping Giant

What once glowed softy,
content within my heart's confines.
Now rages across my consciousness,
unleashed by selfish acts.
Embers, stoked to explosiveness,
like the burgeoning banks of a spring stream.
Unable to hold back the power of it's own being,
but frantic to stem the flow.
Pounding, pounding on the door of self-control,
I feel the silent screams deep within my soul.
Demanding to be let loose, eating me alive,
with the uncontrollable desire to lash out.
The words of my father haunt me...
Turn the other cheek, rise above, stand tall, conceal.
It circles my brain round and round
like a vulture hunting lifeless prey.
But the mantra that once protected,
crumbles now under the crushing weight of disappointment.
And is replaced by the burning desire for revenge,
Take care!
The sleeping giant sleeps no more...
No, she sleeps no more.

| Your words truthfully define the internal emotional struggle of your write - one many of us can identify with. You describe a world so clearly it is scary and yet is a release of pent up air. Very intense write - P. |

Wow, really wow! Even though the words of your father are very wise I can totally relate to the crumbling and losing control.
I freaking love those last two lines. Scary!

| This is fantastic poetry. and not for poetry's sake, this holds the heart of the writer and the attention of the reader. I remember when I could no longer, be the "good" person I was supposed to be and I started to act out on my impulses and desires. I hope you have found yourself, that giant can cause some real damage to everyone involved |
