I Remember (you planting flowers at your mother's grave)

Contributed by Chuckx on Monday, 26th May 2003 @ 11:05:00 PM in AEST
Topic: Holiday Poetry

I remember
not like I'm negligent
in remembering
it's only that it isn't easy for me to show it
But you can read what I think
only that writing it
isn't seen as often
as showing it
but it isn't like
I didn't remember
'cause I do
remember

I remember
you planting flowers
at your mother's grave
how you show it
in the knee-stained soil
clinging to your jeans
begging you
stay
when you could only remember
You couldn't stay
but remembered
by showing it

I remember you crying
because you show it
your love
when you'd lost a part of it
wounded by loss
But you remember to show it
in an appropriate moment
when we are alone
to remember
not in a proclamation
but in your quiet remembrance
to show it

I only say it
differently
another genre
of remembering
Where you walk
I write
where you talk
I might
search for the word
that makes it right
for me to say
I remember
