Just because you're moving forward
Doesn't mean I'm going back
I can keep up at my own pace
And I've never followed the pack
You say I don't smile much
With my serious look
I don't say a lot
But I can read you like a book
I don't show much emotion
But I know how to feel
And the Devil's always
Been at my heels
Trust issues daddy issues
I've felt every emotion raw
I've been knocked out
Like a boxer
But I've always got up for more
I've no time for injustice
Liars or foolish nonsense
I've learnt to keep my distance
And I often study my conscience
However you want to label me
Is a tag you can discard
Once you get to know me
You'll see I don't bite...............hard!!!!

Not bad, but I don't think this is abstract, in the sense it seems pretty straightforward. Generally, unless I'm mistaken, abstract things are usually quite vague, either symbolic or allegorical.
With that said you have a nice bit of pride and respect for your past in this poem, as yourself or the narrator. Whichever the case, it's good to have pride, so long as you don't develop some sort of super-ego. Lol |
