A Father's Confession

My Child...

I miss you...
I always miss you...
When I am with you,
I miss "the you"
you could have been
if none of this had ever happened...
And yet,
You bless me...
You always bless me...
With me or not,
I am blest
by how effortlessly
you make the best
of what Mommy and I have thrust upon you...
You are awesome;
You have always been awesome;
With little to no effort
you squeeze the awesome out of awesome
as no one else
can squeeze the awesome out of awesome...
And every day
you are alive
this world gets a free drink of awesome;
a free drink of
freshly squeezed awesome...
I Love you;
I wish I could have Loved you better;
But you have made the best
of what I have struggled to offer;
And your best
has always been much, much more than enough;

But...
I'm a dreamer,
and so:
I miss you...
I always miss you...
When I am with you,
I miss "the you"
you could have been
if none of this had ever happened...

Tragic. All too common, but tragic. Fear not, your child will do just fine. Your attitude and empathy are admirable. Too many squabble and forget the real sufferers in such sad circumstances, Tip of the hat to you.

Beautifully written. It made me smile, despite the sadness. I loved it.

What a great poem!!!

Divorce is indeed bad but kids are resilient and have a way of being fine. I know mine is.

Thanks for a great read.

My dad left when I was seven, his dad left when he was much younger. Your words mean more than you can imagine. Just saying what you said here is
it, the reason, the best any dad could ever hope to ever do.
You get older, you learn, we all make mistakes,
we understand, but some never get to hear this.
Some never hear it from dads who stick around.

great write!

Peace!
