Hey Dad

Hey Dad
Can you hear me
It's your son James
Speaking to you
From way down below
Not much to say
Just missing you
I wanted to show you
The early Christmas gifts
I bought just for you
As you can see
They are all brand new
A suit and a tie
See how they match your eyes
A pair of shoes
Because I was hoping for some better news
As your mom used to say
"Don't you worry"
Someday soon
I'll be out your way
I'll drop them off
Spend the day
The next time we meet
Will be a much brighter day
Until then
I'll be missing you

Jim, this choked me up. So tenderly beautiful, yet sad. He's listening!

Great writing, my friend!

This is lovely and so meaningful. I talk to my dad often just to give me comfort. He died when I was four, so I have to make him up a lot.
Your write testifies to lifelong memories you embrace of a dad who shared his life with you.
Your respect and kinship shows in your poem, written as an affirmation to a confidant and friend.
Anyone who has ever lost a loved one can feel your affection in this touching write.
Thank you for sharing a very personal bond with us.

It took me a second read to appreciate this. The first I had the same sort of barrier like those I have when I/'/m hesitant to express myself( I imagine ).

I think the most touching, and tender moments are just the overall poem as a whole in regards to the message of it, and the lines:
"Someday soon
I/'/ll be out your way
I/'/ll drop them off
Spend the day"

It makes me think of all those times we look back and realize "didn/'/t spend enough time doing X with Y..." Something tells me that state of mind is inevitable in many cases, but I sincerely hope not.

Great write James. :)
