Eating Myself Alive

Contributed by Invierno on Tuesday, 26th April 2016 @ 09:45:44 AM in AEST
Topic: DarkPoetry

Dirt fills the cracks between my teeth-
Death waits silently, breathlessly
as Death is wont for all on earth.

Screams roar silent in my sleep-
claims and papers flaunting
contracts wrought at birth.

Crunchy leaves presume to creep-
no blanket I ever asked for,
let my sins sink in blackest firth.

Crusty eyes, blind, but all I see-
worms twirling round every bone
consuming my last pinch of worth.

There/'/s a darkness in your poetry, and well-written that darkness is. But, there is a light too. The light of honest vulnerability.

"Screams roar silent in my sleep"--what a heavy line! If only we knew that we could burn the "contracts wrought at birth!" Believing we are not in control of our lives is romantic abdication of a myriad of contracts we made along the way. I cannot mock where I stand when it was I myself who brought me here!
Reality accepts no blame for me. And no fate could ever nail my door shut without my own hammer!
A "last pinch of worth" is the only spark we need to relight the fire.
