The engine roars to life; Into the night we fly; The headlights turn to spikey stars. The signs are whizzing by;
The amber stripes become a smear; The road an endless loop; Beneath my wheels they disappear; Behind me they regroup.
Cars flash lights and honk at me; But Ive no cause for worry; I have to slow to read the signs; Most of which are blurry.
They told me this was dangerous; A myth that I debunked; By counting on your vigilance; So I could drive home drunk.

I love how you do not use
an apostrophe
no longer
oh how I imagine the headlights
as they flicker from the highway
traffic in the midday sun
past way past the empty
gasoline stations
And bars
in the dark
alone one by one
Peace! |
