Theres a fade to the mirror today, a heavy dulled shine As I look deeper through my reflection back to recent times When your energy shone bright, always my beacon Lighting the pathway as Ive journeyed through life
Emotion soaks the weary bones, oppresses with solemnity Goodbye stings the tired mind, bleaches out the positive Time the healer mocks, slow ticks each waking hour Shadows cast by sombre days do not lift in Summer smile
My future will bow to the echoes of your past Though parted, still unified in snapshot memories Mind photographs prevail when the physical is lost That is now your legacy, the way you touched our hearts
Tears will fall in the coming days, when we give your soul to rest But the threads of your existence are never to decay And those that know you best of all, though shocked and mourning now In time will celebrate the gift you gave, by being in their lives.

There/'/s a bit of appreciable nature to this content that makes it impressive, especially as a visual piece. It reminds of a hero or protagonist looking into the mirror for a dramatic scene, be it reflection, or the angry punching the mirror scene we often see as well.
But I just have to say, I can/'/t find the flow, because my mom/'/s listening to the radio in the same room, quite likely lol, which is a little embarrassing to say the least. I don/'/t know if that/'/s because of that or not, but it doesn/'/t feel to me in reading it, that you/'/re embodying the idea or the state of mind. That/'/s not an insult or offense by any means, especially because given my recent state of mind, I/'/ve been less than poetic lately.
//(This is my first comment in about 3 months, and the first poem that I/'/ve been able to read without losing interest since then)//
The reason why this caught my attention is because I/'/ll tend to look a the front page for something to read, briefly and go about my day; but this poem/'/s description reminded me of something else I/'/ve written of a similar notion, but am holding onto until I/'/m feeling poetic again.
I/'/m not sure if this is a helpful comment or not, but I can definitely say this, my favorite things are these: "heavy dulled shine" because it sounds like an oxymoron, which I always appreciate a clever use of, and the line
"Shadows cast by somber days do not lift a summer smile"
That is a fantastic line, one I could not do any better myself if I had tried.
All the best(Steve right?),

Just beautiful; a lovely tribute and well balanced with candour, grief and hope.
