your neighbours are a funny bunch,
cheery smiles and happy waves;
the couple who surprised with brunch?
have a basement full of slaves!
Clare and Phil, just up the street,
like the taste of human meat;
dinner dates are such a treat:
how do they get the roast so sweet?
the near-tos in the cul de sac
like to hunt as a pack;
homeless the preferred prize
//(the winner gets to keep the eyes)//
a faded dream, the family home,
the dawn swallowed by the gloam;
suburban streets, a firing range
for murderers and the deranged.
the key buddies, just around the bend?
orgies held there each weekend;
writhing piles of naked lust,
a sweating, dirty circle of trust.
your postman is never on time,
hes snow-dropping off the laundry lines!
while the cable guy
strangles cats,
and wears them as trophy hats
in your house.
the gardener you thought a refugee
is actually an escapee,
scoping break-ins from his van, with
paid up knights of the Klu Klux Clan!
so hunker in your mortgaged cave,
hoping that the rest behave;
but can the social contract last,
when your pastor is a pederast?
