If I could be there to comfort you, To ease the pain and tears. I would have turned all your sad hours, Into many more happy years.
If I could change the course of time, To prevent your heart from breaking. I would have given anything, To not see those beautiful eyes so filled with aching.
If I could make her turn a different corner, To prevent her and you ever meeting. I would have crossed all the oceans, Just to stop that very first greeting.
If I could only be there, To fix what she has broken. I would try to make her see, How precious a thing from me she has stolen.
Alas - I cannot be there, Although I still see your devastated eyes when I close mine. I still see the very shade they turn, When no more light behind them shine.
Instead I say a silent prayer, So secret none but God will ever know - That you may find your perfect happiness again, That your healing will be swift, not slow.
She knows not the value...
She knows not the price...
She knows not what she has lost...
If I could only show her...
...she will realise, that I know the value much better than most...
If I only could!

So sad, but a really good poem, well written and very powerful with emotions.

Love is often an injustice unto itself. When you begin to know that you love someone, that is when you begin to fail them.
You must learn to love without the desire to be loved. |
