Memories Unspoken

Contributed by softerware on Saturday, 3rd June 2017 @ 07:44:05 PM in AEST
Topic: StoryPoetry

Rise up on the battlefield;
While chimes the deadly knell;
Kneel beside the sword you wield;
And count the bodies felled.

Who has won for what youve done;
And how shall time describe;
These fallen sons whose colors run;
On torn flags in the sky.

They came too young in season;
To stop and wonder why;
Today he seeks a reason;
Why he alone survived.

His old eyes see the history;
Of friends, long gone, who fell;
A mystery to me that he;
Regrets he lived to tell.

Thank you!

Those who survive the battle who are now older and wiser sit deep in thought as time and the years pass by are certainly haunted by what has happened and by those who did not survive.

He probably feels guilty.

This one choked me up a bit. Awesome, as usual.
