Off To The War

Contributed by jamesstockdale on Thursday, 8th June 2017 @ 09:11:06 AM in AEST
Topic: war

Oh my Lord
Why shall my fate
Be that I was born
Seven decades too late
I/'/m a man that denies color
Only to see the world
Prewar in black and white
I await the Birmingham train
Travel only by night
Southbound to see my gal
London my destination tonight
We are only in our late teens
And I/'/m off to the war
To see the world
Most likely I will lose
All that I adore
As I steal a kiss on the pier tonight
Share the pitter patter of our hearts
Only this world can keep us apart
We fully understand
When I do depart
We only live on borrowed time
We shall always remember this day
No matter what the future may bring
Happiness or utter dismay
Cause I/'/m off to the war
The very next day

magic is magical
in the tiny apartment where
she could not pay the rent
And she stood and danced like
a chorus girl, just another would
for the hooray. before the myth
The old man back on the estate was
hard of hearing. but chivalry never dies
Go on keep going on, wait, what/'/s that,
O, you sing and dance, O you are so lovely

the girl paid her rent with dates And the young
men headed out only dreaming of true love

dreaming of true love

I like this one James!
Good write!
Peace!

Makes me think of all those soldiers who fought and never returned in the Great War. Ironic that it was called "Great" when the reality was that it was horrific and cruel.
We can only hope that such tragedies never happen again and the "gals" see their loved ones returned safely
