A Wayward Soul's Journey: The Return to Neverland

Contributed by ingeniusidiot on Wednesday, 26th July 2017 @ 01:58:55 PM in AEST
Topic: fantasy

Second star, straight on till morning
While heavy thoughts of longing and sorrow
Carry aloft a wandering soul upon a humid breeze
Yet soaring ever higher to a final destination

Coastal crags once majestic
Now shoot forth like daggers
From sands once white now having turned dark crimson
And mermaid song has since become a sirens banshee-like shriek

As feet touch lightly upon warmed earth
Treading with cautious footsteps
While eyes peer nervously into the mist of the twilight
Wanting, needing to find another soul

Into forest dense, poised for battle
Trees like soldiers stand
Fallen leaves march coerced by a whispering wind
While no cadence is heard as they move with unseen purpose

As thru shielded canopy solitary rays of sun do pass
Resembling Heavenly swords slicing thru the evening haze
Casting shadows and showing movement where none in fact exists
Yet weary eyes are unable to tell the difference

The forest path worn yet overgrown
Reaching deep into recessed memory
With each burdened step bringing to life
Illuminating the troubling essence of forgotten lore

While sleep may come
Peaceful rest continues to ever be so elusive
Like a forbidden love that chooses to remain just beyond a lover/'/s reach
And imaginary friends become tangible memories

As memories return
Heartstrings pull and lead the way
Back to the crimson shore
Where a ship is anchored keeping time with passing waves

Onboard and pacing weathered planks
With tattered sails popping in a stagnant breeze
As a ghostly cacophony pays respect to their captain
For henceforth fear goes by the name

Hook

Edgar Allen in Neverland! Alas, we can/'/t go back.
Childhood is gone. This is a haunting visit to a place we once knew, that is no longer.
So many wonderful lines here, FALLEN LEAVES MARCH COERCED BY A WHISPERING WIND..and
HEAAVENLY SWORDS SLICING THRU THE EVENING HAZE...
You have remastered a childs world through the scarlet eyes of a seasoned adult. The closing line, a warning.. raises goosebumps!
How magical it must have been, that by some suspension of belief, Peter Pan was indeed written by a grown up!

You/'/ve made the scene really vivid by your choice of words and imagery.
A true storyteller right here I think.
There are times when I read something and think "I wish I had written that"
Here is one such time

Steve
