Giving Up On You

Contributed by jamesstockdale on Monday, 21st August 2017 @ 08:04:58 AM in AEST
Topic: anguished

I don/'/t know what to feel about you
When you readied me for the fall
You made me feel so small
Time spent with you went so slow
All I ever wanted was for us to grow
Your words were never true
Time spent with you often made me blue
Many times I wanted to say goodbye
My heart still bleeds deep inside
Although you/'/ll never see me cry
I/'/m giving up on you
Cause I just don/'/t know what else to do

Plaintive and heartfelt. I have been in the very spot you so accurately describe. Thanks James. I like this.

The longing here is painful to read as it recalls our own experiences. Your point is well taken James, there is nothing else to do, but rescue yourself.
Your saving grace is that you are looking BACK on this, and not forward to it!
Let the wind come under your wings.

One of the best lines ever written in poetry by Pablo
"Love is so short, forgetting is so long"
Your poem reminds me of this.

some small parcel of you
is embedded in never giving
up, it beckons, calls out
as it always must,
there is no inconsequential
unless you could go back
but you never can
but trapped is an emotional
state, of being
that one has
onto another
we all fade, but
do we dare fade
or take away
anything ever
given
without feeling
terribly torn
sure, Irish people
say they do, all
the time,
but they are Irish
like me,
poets, like me,
and you.
So go, get out
away to the coast,
stroll down by the stream
yelp in the night, where
no one is nearby
mend your heart
then open it up
again wide
listen to some kid
who does not know
a darn thing
tell you a story
And laugh a good laugh
all jaunty-like
just to help them sleep
remind them of this
big world and all the
pitfalls that lay themselves
upon the primordial soup

then make a big pot of vegetarian
soup, let the aroma fill the cold
day, and afterwards write
your poetry, of which I
am eager to read,
since I know it will be true.

You are a consequential poet/writer
James.
This I do believe!

Peace!
