Who owns your life?

While most select with some regret; The life long work they choose; How few will make the steps it takes To love the work they do?
Pursue a job you love by God, As you would have a lover. That so inspires such fierce desires; That you would have no other.
A mistress who owns all of you Who leaves you drained and spent; Invades your sleep, that you should keep; Her appetites content.
How swift each day when work is play; And win or lose you know; A life on wings, on your own strings In no mans undertow.

How true and a great flow.
As I get older I appreciate all things more and more. Because the good seldom lasts. With the new economy you better have more than one love.
I really liked this....................! |

thanks for the reminder - I/'/ve been drifting from my true calling to pay the bloody bills, and time, like the earnings, disappear so quickly!
I love the comparison - work as a relationship/partnership/comittment, good or bad, fresh or stale - yet ultimately, the job doesn/'/t care if you stay or go.
and to extend the metaphor, if JamesS is right about more than one job, will we have to become polyamourous in our careers, or have multiple, sequential /'/partners/'/?
hmmm...
