Buried In The Sand

Topic: oops

We got the war we wanted
Hurra and hurray!
We got the war we wanted
We got our time to slay

We knew he had no weapons
Thats why we had to fight
You think were so stupid
Wed face up to real might?

We couldnt say we just hate the guy
So now were going to war
So we had to say it was about WMDs
Thats what our lies were for

Oh dont worry well find SOMETHING
Something to hoodwink YOU
You know us politicians
And the dirty tricks we do

And the next nasty war we decide
You really ought to fight
Remember what its all about
Dont think our words are right

For weapons of mass destruction
Read weapons of mass deception

You poor fools who got frightened by us
Dont worry its just a game
We call the shots and you get killed
Its about our votes and fame

And dont forget old Israel
And all that lovely oil
And all that lovely influence
New access to new soil

In the game of power politics
You should just let us have our way
Forget the idea were telling the truth
We like it much better that way

And all those disfigured babies?
And all the kids without limbs?
Well theyre just collateral damage
A side effect to our whims

What we want we will get
That you should understand
The truth? It doesn't matter!

Its buried in the sand

True, very true. It upsets me as I feel impotent to the 'whims' or 'interests' of those put in power not by the people but by that which the people consume. A self fulfilling orgy of consumption as it were.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
