They call me patches; I have patches all over me. On my arm, on my leg, and on my forehead, you see.
Yes, they call me patches; I have them from head to toe. On my back, and my chest, and any bare spot, they go.
Yes, they call me patches; I/'/m covered from north to south But, i still have a cigarette in my mouth.

What fun! I was bopping merrily along picturing a vagabond, or a clown, or some poor soul in a hospital bed...and WHAM! Your last line upended my perceptions! The very best of story telling!
In humor, there is a message here: When you are absolutely certain you know the story (the person, the situation, ) ask WHY just one more time.
The goal is to draw the gun from the holster before pulling the trigger.
