Opal shaded eyes Hidden by a dark disguise Abused by stupid fools Used simply as a tool Days played out in the dark Not a bit of light, nothing so stark Stringing the beads Was her chore, her only deed Done solely out of need Her mother was simply a selfish whore Ole Pa you could somewhat adore Trips to the park By herself alone in the dark She cried out to be loved In her loneliness was a patch of blue When she met someone new Freedom was at her door Leading her to a new world to explore Being blind stopped her no more Just a glimmer of light, a ray of hope Someone to care, be aware Teach you how to cope Darkness and despair Only love could repair

// Inspiration is a cool thing. This has such a good flow to it and you take the reader right there with your imagery. Very impressive.
Now I/'/m curious about the movie itself too.
Nice writing, Jimmy. // |

Your story has a nice swinging gait that kept me following along, and like Tim said, now I am curious about the movie.
My favorite line is ..Darkness and despair; only love could repair....
For everyone who longs to be rescued, there is a rescuer. For those who long to learn, a teacher.
And for those who would do harm, a victim.
We are a lock and key society as your poem asserts, and I love the matchmaking that wins in the finale.

I like movies like Patch of Blue even today.
So the girl is blind, and lives in a tiny apartment with
a mother who is protective, and also needs her, sort
of exploits her.
The man who reaches out to help her, a man of different color, a color she never knows, would not ever be able
to know about different colors of skin - understands her plight and tries his best to find a school that will allow her to be more free.
Senses are real. She senses that this man is genuine,
the first to really care about her, and more than that,
has characteristics that make her affectionate towards him, she is real, she is.
So is he, but he understands, he is not the kind of guy to
fall in love when he knows first hand the right thing to do is to help this girl, and not himself.
So you get a sense of dilemma in this film.
A man who is willing to have his reputation stripped,
A black man who stands up for a white girl who is blind.
Even though the black man has worked hard all his life
to get ahead in the face of racism all around, he too
is color blind.
Peace!
