This generation has no space; They live in seconds, then erase. They dont repair, they just delete; For all too soon, its obsolete!
By the time you graduate; Your four year tour at whizbang state; The first 3 years of stuff you learned; Will be outdated, over-turned.
Running just to keep your space; Hundreds wait to take your place! Penmanship is off the map; Spelling, grammar, done by app.
Cellphones make you feel protected; Fearful youll be disconnected. Selfies bookmark every play; One upsmanship the modern way.
Breadcrumbs left so someone knows; Where you are and where you go; What you see and do and eat; With whom and when, erase, repeat.
OMG! IM HERE! ITS ME! Some may chose to disagree; But why else would we text and tweet? Content to speak, but never meet.
Buried in photography; A billion lone biographies. Isolated, compromised; Survival of the digitized;
Finding ways to be remembered; In a raucous whirling blender; Wondrous lonely generation; Holding hands in isolation.

This is by far the best poem i ever read on this subject. The first stanza nails it. It also sheds light as to why social media matters so much.
No use in achieving when instant gratification via social media is easier and faster and appropriate because in the end they are all flash in the pans and no one seems to care anyway. Wow, how pathetic we have become... |

great read, for me the title says it all, I think the only thing missing in this, is that 15 minutes "Invisible People"
are looking for.. |

Substance is lost. I feel my cousins that there was a time where only rich people had monopoly on knowledge because knowledge was in the books and books were expensive whereas now we have the entirety of human knowledge literally in our hands and we/'/ve never been dumber. There/'/s no substance |

Perfection...quite the audacious observation. And so very, very correct.
Spot on as usual.

NAILED IT!
the age old pattern of technology constructing (and constricting) identity and expression. This iteration has no depth, replaced by multiple identities, ideas and actions that disappear like a fart on the wind. the workplace is reflecting it as well.
I did my fair share of narcissistic staring into mirrors and self-centred acts growing up, plus peer group longing, but phantom social FOMO? cyber bullying? a million selfies? Uggh! At least I could read a book from start to finish when I was just a youngling.
looking at the world through a phone lens and not the ones in your eyes says it all - a preference for the digital representation of life and not the reality of existence - or personal safety (how many people are falling down holes and being hit by cars as they stay glued to their screens when they should be reading their environment?).
I despair for those I know who seem grafted to their phones and addicted to the ebb and flow of social media - can/'/t read, can/'/t spell, cogitate or debate, with memories like goldfish and indifferent or ignorant of their own degeneration.
excuse my rant, but you got me going!

Your final stanza was everything!
Like a grand finale fireworks display.
Bulls eye on the entire piece but you lit up the sky with the conclusion, this was a sad poem to read, so very realistic, you were in the zone, Jaye. |
