Silence

Contributed by nightwolf on Tuesday, 3rd April 2018 @ 05:10:33 PM in AEST
Topic: DarkPoetry

I lied in maddening solitude
as I was consumed
by the silence dripping
into my veins,
drowning my mind,
in a complete sense of nothing.

Grasping at shadows, I watched
the ceiling drift into the void
that hovered above my pillow;
swallowing the space around me,
until the only evidence of light
was the dim view of a clock
ticking in endless cadence.

The only distraction from the echo
of footsteps beyond my door,
and the whispers emanating
from the cold stone walls
of my chamber.

Seems like a experience in a dungeon, with a pillow and a clock. Magnificently dark and descriptive.

Very Poe-ish. The allusion to the stone walls and the chamber take me back to The RAVEN. The ticking clock the heartbeat under the floorboards of the TELLTALE HEART.
Your fascination with the macabre is treated gently here for newcomers I suspect. But the cadence and erie setting are haunting, and your description leaves nothing to the imagination necessary to chill the heart!

Softerware stole my thoughts on this but of course presented a more polished comment than I. This was great and unique!
