When bombs are exploding about,
When lives are turned inside out;
When everything is black and white,
When bad guys win the fight;
When good news is not reported,
When bad news is distorted;
When the world is shameless
And void of respect and happiness,
There is hope--there is an answer,
Stop reading the newspaper!

Wow. Totally agree. 6 years ago I gave up cellphones, texting, my pager, my watch, my newspaper subscription, my answering machine, my alarm clock, tv newscasts and malls.
We are over informed about matters we have no power to alter for the sake of ratings or sales.
Staying informed is my job; not channel 10s.
The last line caught me unprepared! Great finish to a well populated personal checklist! Bravo!

Exactly. One way or another, its all contrived to engage us in a purchasing relationship, but where is the personal payoff? I rarely feel better from reading the news, or watching the latest rounds of misery and mayhem on tv. Kittens still make me laugh, though, and the Schadenfreude of video fails are a guilty pleasure.
