What Comes Next

Contributed by unknown_utopia on Sunday, 22nd April 2018 @ 06:04:00 PM in AEST
Topic: oops

when I wake up in the morning
nothing but the sun
on an empty billboard
the wreckage from my crash is smoldering
and I wonder what comes next

Dancing daze in the Terran tango
crippled pilgrims doing the twist
contemporary creatures with film star features
play acting just to exist

out in the Illusion called the ordinary world
I try to do the right thing
I tried to talk
but no one heard a word what I said
it was like I was in suspened animation
as they ignored me
and continued with their routine
working on the infrastucture of insanity

manic inertia has touched me with its kiss
and I must admit
it can be intoxicating
I continue to dance
though the beat is all wrong
fractured emotionally I silently scream

an object at rest tends to stay at rest
it is like being in suspended animation
there is no chance for progress...
I am running just to stand still
on a bizarro world landscape
kicking sludge with every step
with bated breath I wonder what comes next

Your poem measures the relationship between the real and fantasy worlds we all dwell in. Reality is essential, yet without sleep and dreams we would go insane. So which should we cling to?
You ask some provocative questions and exemplify the delicate balance we strive to attain.
As your title states, you have left us with personal exploration to reflect upon.

Softerware took some of my thoughts but she said it better. The last stanza is very powerful to me!
Well done!

An unfamiliar land, a language of foreign tongue, what does come next, the familiar or the strange?
