Standing by the window
Staring down the drive
She awaits there every evening
For her husband to arrive
A fire is stoked and warming
On his chair a newspaper waits
She starts to worry a little
As it seems he's running late
With her eyes upon the driveway
And her ear tuned for the phone
She wonders why its taking so long
For her sweetheart to come home
To pass away the moments
To ease her worrying thoughts
She thinks of him and smiles
For all the happiness he's brought
So many years together now
They've lived and loved as man and wife
As one they shared in harmony
Their every up and down of life
Remaining faithful to each other
For there was never a need to roam
A love like theirs is everlasting
In each they found a home
Sighing now with worry
As he's never been late before
At 6pm for the last fourty one years
He's been walking through that door
Then suddenly she gasps for breath
As she remembers the day before
With her face sobbing into her hands
She collapses to the floor
Now grief replaces the feeling
The worry of him being late
As she realises in the silence
That ahead is the longest wait
Pulling herself together
She looks once more down the drive
And whispers up to the heavens
Now it is you love,who must wait for I
