The Uncertain Poet

Contributed by norm on Tuesday, 10th June 2003 @ 02:45:00 AM in AEST
Topic: LostLove

Reading other poet's poems
you'd think would be a treat,
And so it is until reflection
makes me think retreat.

I write my write with all my might
and read what out does come,
But other poets write their write
and get another sum.

They're sum is soft and sweet and fine,
Their writes are wooly broth,
Compared to me, my embryo
looks more like steel-wooled cloth.

Why can't I fluff a sharpened edge,
and smooth a smartened gaff,
What clown in me does want to make
the reader laugh and laugh.

I tell you when I feel this way,
I want to chuck my head,
And sneak a peek at someone's work
And put it down, instead.

But then, I look into the glass,
And I stare back at me,
I say, "Are you so much a whimp?"
Well, that we're gonna see.

I am I. I'm and no one else,
No one else but me,
I looked again, this time I'm sure
I'm all that I can be.

Listen, friend, I'll not offend,
Like me or like me not,
I'll write my write as best I can
That's all the choice I've got.

A singer who had eyes of blue,
Whose crowd was apt to sway,
He sang a song, as I recall
'I have to do it.. my way'

If you look, my eyes ain't blue
To sway a crowd, I can't
If you don't like my poems I say
You go and rave and rant...

my friend everyone needs to laugh sometime
And you do this with your rhyme
We prefer you as you are now
Sometimes I laugh so hard I think I may have a cow

Shari

Well said Sir norm your challenge made
thus did you wield your trusty "blade"
that all who saw it, stood in awe
"So that's what poetry is for"
They cried at your fair commentry
"To make us laugh......we all agree!"

Sorry about ye old english speak but it seemed to demand the chivalry.

I'm usually slighted
I've never been knighted,
I shall move from my house
the neighborhood's blighted

Your a poet and no one can change that. What kind of poetry you write is for you to decide. Who's saying you have to be like everybody else? You don't. You have talent and I appreacite your work.
