the crucifixion of a nameless maiden

i sing a black aria for a fair maiden on a cross she hangs, dying, forgotten when pressed for her name, i'm at a loss
i've slit this maiden's wrists to beckon merciful death for it tears my heart to hear the pain that comes with each ragged breath
i care so much for this maiden though her name, it still escapes me it seems rather queer, for the maiden who hangs here once meant a great deal to me
her eyes so soft and loving her body, emaciated, withered, and weak i speak soothing words, but my calm is belied by the tears slipping down my cheek
finally, this fair maiden has given up the ghost she grew far too weak to fight and though i'm glad that she is finally at peace my body shakes from Sorrow's might
i finally remembered that fair maiden's name as i fashioned a noose from this rope the fair maiden who died the damsel crucified was once known by the name of Hope
