who is the clown and the paid off actors
that brings the crowd so much laughter
who are the singers with the big band
or the one doing a front hand stand
the big top is lit up in lights
charge a price that sits in the heights
but what will they do when one clown don't show
hold it over for another night and hope the crowd will grow
no more running through hoops or fire
no more walking on my heart like a tight wire
no more peddlers trying to sell
no more gypsies casting their spell
this one time act has performed her last bet
jumping no more without a sturdy net
so say goodnight as the man signs off
a free clown, no more to be lost
