Explanation of Need

Contributed by Written2bRead on Thursday, 8th August 2002 @ 06:57:08 AM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

With words, cluttered in my mind
again and again
I wish I could explain

I've tried to write them before
again and again
I wish I could explain

I long to explain these feelings inside
I sing, I play, I write,
I try so hard... and no matter what...
the words come out so confusing
so cluttered yet so apart
so desperately wanting to express this feeling
that betrays my explaination

The struggle continues
and over and over again
blank thought drops to the earth
I try to find the words to say that I have none,
but they die in the dead air

I sing, I play, I write,
but is it all useless?

Where is the heart I can pour myself into?
I'm different, I know...
but no one else knows

Where is the heart that can pour me out?!

I long for explaination of my feelings
but even more...
the hand to hold,
a soul... to pour into mine
I am so empty without you
*all I have is what I want to give you*

What is this love inside of me?
an empty love?
breathing short breaths and sighs
a love so useless
searching for the object of affection

Stay here, let me know you
with so little words,
I wish I could explain...

alright... once upon a time before the original YPDC site crashed, I posted this poem and everyone said... "that is so sad" or "Sad, but beautifully done"... hmm... sound familiar? Yeah, but now I think it might be time to clear this up. As you, princess, said, "I think we all can or have related to this at one time or another...". I think that this poem TRULY is the explaination of need. The first poem I wrote that I was proud of, that really meant something to me, still means everything to me. I wrote it when I was single, I read it when I was together with someone, I thought about it in church and very recently the lyrics hit harder than they ever had in a situation that I could have never imagined. It seemed like the poem was written by someone who was just meeting someone that they were very interested in and though everything felt right, everything worked wrong. The poem says something like, "stay here, let me know you, with so little words". Awkwardness and a longing to know some one fits very well into the lyrics of this poem, but that's not the only thing it's about.

To say that this peom is about an experience would be limiting it to the fullest, almost to the point of erasing it or discrediting it. This poem is about life itself... all of us DO relate to this... Really. No matter the position you're in in life, this is valid: Single or not (it could equally be an "I'm missing you" or "I love you" or "I want you" poem), religious or not (do you believe in a personal loving God that created you? who can fill your deepest need for perfect love? it doesn't matter). There is a need that everyone has, and this poem merely explains the need. It doesn't say anything about being lonely, it says:

1 The need is such a powerful feeling that it is indescribable
2 Life is a search "where is the one I can pour myself into? [who] can pour me out?"
3 And that search is for life's meaning "all I have is what I want to give"

Life is about relationship: friends, family, loved ones, even enemies, teachers as well as students, and God

i agree Jared, its about all of that maybe some people didnt quite get what you were saying but people come to conclusions differently...and not everyone is going to have the same thoughts as you do, but this is such an amazing write. i read it over and over and every time something new surprised me. there are hidden meanings in every line...and you say everything that needs to be said when you said "who can i pour myself into"... its perfection...i am very impressed... thank you for sharing this with us Jared

I know I've read this before and before a shunned it because of your explanation...
I thought I'd redeem myself having experienced something to this effect not long ago... I find this to be a beautiful piece of work

"Stay here, let me know you
with so little words,
I wish I could explain..."

That brought tears to my eyes...
Really nice write Jared.
