She stands before the mirror
And pulls apart herself
So many years a mother
Her needs put on a shelf
She stares into the eyes
That hold steady her gaze
And into their reflection
She falls back many days
To a time that used to know her
A place that held her smile
Where living with herself
Wasn't living in denial
Back then she was more confident
Her body held no shame
And no man had ever called her
Anything but her name
Her womanhood was innocent
Scarless with no pain
Everything was in its place
Even her mind was somewhat sane
In a blink she is brought back
To see within her eyes
The pain of being who she is
The foundation of her demise
