Sitting in your room, I held you
as tears dripped from your eyes
sending shards of glass
ripping through my heart
with every sob digging deeper
cutting through muscle and tissue
with no remorse
I look beyond your eyes
and into your soul
where the open wound lies
dripping with blood, throbbing with pain
tenderly, I try to wash the hurt away
covering it with a blanket of my love
hoping someday it will be enough
to mend all that has been broken
