The Prayer

Lord, my life hasnt been the best
And I know Im not first in line for heaven
Ive had an empty heart for so long
I havent spoken to you since I was seven.
Ive never really prayed before
And I doubt Im doing it right
But last time I saw her, she fought for you
And I dont want all this to end on a fight
Im not angry at you for taking her
And I really dont know why
I dont know why I dont hate you
For taking away her life
Instead I have noticed, Lord
How happy she was all those years
How her heart was so warm, she loved so many
How she could brave this world without fear.
She always tried to save me, Lord
And Im really still not sure about this
But Im willing to put out the effort
To grant my friends last wish.
I dont think Ill read the entire bible.
And Im not sure Ill even go to church
All I know is that, I know youre there
And somehow you saved her from sadness and the hurt.
Im still a little scared of leaving
The dark chamber Ive been trapped in for so long
And I still dont know if I can be who she thought I could
Im not really honest, brave, or strong.
But I feel Im going to breakdown, Lord
And so Im knocking at your door
Im hoping youll forgive me
For not putting my faith in you before.
Ive been confused for so long now
Thinking Im tougher than the world.
But Im cracking under so many burdens
And I think shes saved me, that girl.
So I wanted you to know, Lord
Im going to try my best.
Maybe someday Ill feel, as she did
And slowly come out of the darkness.
