she sits on the sofa in her living room her favorite beer in one hand, bottle of xanex in the other he sits in a chair on the other side of the room with his remote in hand, carelessly flicking through channels want a beer she asks, no answer no indication that he hears her
she opens her bottle of small white pills pops one in her mouth and chews, numb to the bitterness she chews another and absently wonders how many are left her interest not enough that she would count, theres enough cheers lover, she says, no answer tips her beer and swallows some down
close your eyes to the tears let the dream carry you far, far away close your eyes to the fear feel yourself flying far, far away
she washes down her last pill with her last sip of beer and lies down on the sofa, good bye dear, she says he lifts his hand and flicks the channel again, no answer no need to hide the pill bottle she thinks, no need at all and she smiles knowing she wont see the morning
close your eyes to the tears let the dream carry you far, far away close your eyes to the fear feel yourself flying far, far away
he turns off the set tired of flicking through channels with nothing to watch he gets out of his chair and heads down the hall he comes back with a blanket and gently covers her kisses the top of her head and wonders what dream left the smile on her lips then he heads down the hall to his bed
close your eyes to the tears let the dream carry you far, far away close your eyes to the fear feel yourself flying far, far away

That poem was so emotional. I loved it so much even though it isn't a great subject. It's the things people don't say sometimes that can hurt us...I feel this.
Excellent Job. |

thank you very much...it is true, much goes unsaid. this was written a few weeks before my ex moved out (jan or feb). the poem,'the wind was blowing' (just submitted) was written the day he moved.
again, thank you

thank you. it is a feeling of hopelessness, or inevitableness (is that a word!). ...but there is always hope.

this was an amazing story....you told it so well....with that little last bit of shock at the end......knowing what he's not going to wake up to the next day....makes you want to see his realization....... |
