A candle in the window
Signals your coming and your going
In this the reinvention of my life
Behind the laundry on the line
And the dogs in the yard
I am a woman hidden
In an ordinary life
That tarnished object is my heart
Longing for adventure
Beyond the kitchen door
You promise passion
But can I trust you
Or will you trifle
With my affection
Coming to steal
Rather than give attention
Your eyes are dark
Not revealing anything
I feel my heart against my ribs
Wanting to take that final leap
Plunge into the abyss
Where you are master
I clench my fist in frustration
I cannot take what you will not give
And you play cruel games
With mal intent
I am swept into the riot
That you create
Scene by scene you orchestrate
Writing your own script
In painful detail
Spelled out on the pages
And I let you dictate the ending
Leaving me with nothing at all
