Take this...read
it is my blood
shed for you in ink
my passion is gone; I gave it all
I struggle now to think
I'm the "rummy" on the corner
begging money just to eat
the silent figure standing
in the shadows off the street
the unshaven face that turns away
when people stop to gaze
a prisoner in the truest sense
having lived my finest days
No longer am I eloquent
it hurts, but that's the truth
for I borrowed from my old age
by stealing from my youth
So, take this...read
my very blood
shed here with my pen
the poet's soul...a fragile thing
can break...but never bend...
