Preying on our dreams

PREYING ON OUR DREAMS(Peter Sprenkeler)

We sit at our desksminds alert and poised,
Creativity seeping from every literary pore.
Words of passion seem to flow readily from the quill,
Please worldread our hearts expressions we hopefully implore.

We seek not fortune for we realise the realities,
Just an appreciative eara chance to entertain.
To voice our deepest desires and concerns in life,
To share them in powerful and magnetic refrain.

And in so doinga hope grows accordingly in us all,
That 'hungry' readers will devour our creations.
Encouragement is needed to keep the pen on fire,
Our words in your heartsour ultimate destination.

But sadly there are those whom will prey on this situation,
And take advantage of the young writer and his dreams.
When no encouragement comesand born in frustration,
He'll be lured and enticedby the opportunist's awful schemes.

Literary stardom is falsely promised'the carrot dangled',
"You will be famous if you are prepared to pay the price".
You are starved for recognitionyou long to be 'known',
It may come in timebut beware of this callous literary vice.

They will taunt you with so many hollow promises,
Literary fame is yoursfor a feefor the taking.
But Ilike so many poor unfortunates before me have found,
Your moneynot your talent is the foul purpose of their undertaking.

And so many succumb to this emotionally cruel trade,
So many creative hearts and 'pockets' are rent and left in shame.
So steer well clear of the literary 'thugs and profiteers',
Continue be creative as you mustbut be cautious in this literary game.

Great advice, and a fine poem

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
