pain's eternal pursuit

my lungs process the flames of hell
and dilute them into rage
the rage that always bleeds from me
the hate that just won't go away
i don't know why
i'm angry all the time
i guess i feel cheated
though, i'm not sure of what
too many years spent bleeding
from the same mental cuts
wounds inside that never heal
just open deeper to reveal
another scar, another burn
another tale forgotten, now returned
to dance swiftly, through my mind
laden with sorrow, i lag behind
the tale is told long before i reach
the spot where it would deign to re-teach
lessons that i've learned before
but, i've forgotten all that and so much more
so each scar that bleeds is always new
the pain it brings, still cuts through
the patchwork wall of apathy
that i constructed so clumsily
no lessons learned
no knowledge gleaned
no scabs to pick
from cuts so deep and clean
because they never scab
just bleed forever
even the wrists
so long ago severed
they should have bled dry
long ago
but, they still bleed
and the pain still grows
surely i will lose my mind
and leave all of this far behind
until then, i'm still trapped inside
a shadowless hell where i cannot hide
from the agony that paces me
never to kill, only to maim
with atrocites to numerous to name
and i lie bleeding on the floor
damned to bleed forevermore
