There are no funeral pyres,
no wakes for dying loyalty,
For those who die screaming for help
from the hands that murder them.
There is no anguish
for innocent eyes defiled and filled with terror,
for unconditional love rebuked
and repaid with suffering
There are no mourners for stolen freedom,
for spirits raped in horror
because hearts scarred in lethargy
cannot feel the torment in their minds
But shedding tears is only important
until all the lamenting in the world
cannot change the horror, or make it right.
