Reflections in a Mirror

Contributed by gee on Tuesday, 9th December 2003 @ 12:06:57 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

What form is this which casts it gaze
beyond the space of veiled eyes
to stare upon the foggy mirrored wall
where staring back I see him there

Familiar features 'neath the weathered shell
show through as the hints of colour
in an artists swatch
An older, wiser, even weary look displayed
or merely the scar of loneliness
from a faded youth

Sea green eyes, transfixed upon my furrowed face
bear witness to my troubled thoughts,
cut cleanly through my wavering pride
laying bare the essence of my heart and soul

Face to face, eyes locked,
our hands entwined
upon the glass streaked with steamy drops
The touch of silence cannot feel the guilt
nor bear witness against me in my final hour

The time so silently slipped away
I cannot help but wonder how it passed
Time, a testimony to the truth
for I truly am not the man I used to be.

What a brilliant poem

How wonderfully written
It feels like that when you look at your reflection sometimes
Never the same as looking in the mirror when you was 16

Not a flaw in sight
