You get used to being Alone

Contributed by redlantern2051 on Tuesday, 16th December 2003 @ 07:36:12 AM in AEST
Topic: oops

You get used to being alone

Broke up with my girl yesterday
Maybe it was last week

Hey, maybe last year
The days blur like bad pictures

I cant remember what caused it
Im on automatic

You get used to being alone
You get used to being sad

Im listening to Garbage
Im a pop song

Im the ghost in the big house with the green eyes
Green eyes that stare right thru you

Green eyes that have watched sad movies in hot Summer nights
Wondering what love was
And can it be restored?

You get used to being alone
You get used to being sad

You look sad, my friend
Give me your broken vessel of blood and bone

So many years, the soft pain

Id kill for someone elses memories
Id walk across the desert for some good feelings

Let my tears heal you and all those like you
Just trust me, broken hearted little drifter singing lonely songs

You get used to being alone
You get used to being sad

I remember the world before girls
When all we had was clean hearts and Beatles songs

Yeah, George Harrison
On the radio
When he still walked thru this world of light and shadow

And we thought the whole world listened to Jackson Browne and got stoned

Those were the days I remember,
Were we only 16?

Was it ever just you and me against the world?
What have I imagined and what have I kept true?

You get used to being alone
You get used to being sad

And the models we knew
Were all from Playboy

And the girls we knew
Were just dreams that floated thru a different world in a different way

I had my crush on Alyssa Milano
I had my crush on long-haired brunettes

And I never had a bad attitude
Till I was 17
But that didnt last for long

We all go thru our rebel time
We all forget about the cricket score

But the Sun forgives all
The Sun forgives all

And I can see your face in the dying light and youre still smiling
That matters to me, in ways I cant ever tell you, I guess

Broke up with my girl yesterday
Maybe it was last week

Hey, maybe last year
The days slide by like bad pictures

I dont remember the score
I dont remember the final word

I dont remember the damage that was done
My heart has hit the deep freeze

Im on automatic
Im a pop song
Im listening to Garbage

You get used to being alone
You get used to being sad

You ever watch TV?
You ever worship Elvis?

You ever wonder just what he did to himself in Graceland?
Do you think he ever had a chance?

Let the cute girls dance on the TV

Channel Rock Planet
Channel Hip-Hop
Channel Whatever-you-Want

Let the Latin lover wear his silver cross with Christ in thorns
Let anything warm this heart

And just let me have a dream without an ending in blood desires
Yeah, just let me swim in the waves

Cause no TV show is as good as the surf,
Not even 90210 in the glory days

Someones singing Sheryl Crow songs on the sand
Everything feels familiar and not in a bad way

Im just a pop song
Im just a fad

Our hearts arent pure
I dont even know what the word means anymore
But once I did

Ive seen demons in the face of good people
Ive seen suicides and nobody knew the reason

And even the saints are scarred
Even the saints have secrets and black and windy pasts

You get used to being alone
You get used to being sad

But theres nothing wrong with smiling

Cause we arent even halfway
Cause our lives will be full of twists and turns

Remember that kid at school who stabbed the bully, and ran away,
They asked all of us what made him do it?

I wonder where he is now?

I often think of him.
Just so someone does.

The sea is so vast and Im so small

Somewhere in the water
I turn off automatic

And Im just me again

I swim into the blue so free,
I dont really want to go back to shore

But I keep hearing the ghost calling me Home
Most times its nothing but a feeling

Sometimes its her on my voicemail
And I take the phone to the window and watch the dolphins play

Just to hear her say
Goodbye

One more time

I never speak
It hurts too much

My voice is colored by a broken heart
I get embarrassed by how hurt I am

But Im me again
That has to count

You get used to being alone
You get used to being sad
You get used to being alone
You get used to being sad.

I could relate in many ways to your poem. Breaking up, broken hearts are no fun. A wise person once whispered in my ear--This will pass if you give it time...At the time it seemed irrelevent but I have found it now to be true.

Thanks for your comments guys-I believe you, Kie, this will pass in time-but i just have to hang in there, its just a breakup, not the end of the world-tho in some ways it really is an ending of a particular small emotional world-we had been going out since 99, living together as well, so I guess its easy to understand why I'm upset! :-) oh well, I am just foucing on taking a breather for awhile, chilling it right out++++++++++++++
