I'm alone in the house. It's ten thirty three, There's a knock at the door, I'm afraid to go see, I've just read, 'Scrooge' it could possibly be An apparition out there who's coming for me.
I thought of the year that has gone before, Did I do wrong for the ghost at the door, I gave a tithe and a good bit more, To keep all the fates, from me, being sore.
It's true I did laugh at Mary Jane She can really be an awful pain, She wants for me to be her swain, Whatever she wants, she wants in vain.
Could it be, I caused a little leak, I couldn't swim the chesapeake, I'm bad when I play Edvard Grieg, I didn't coach the little league.
I guess I have to see who's there, Apparitions are really very rare, Ah, who's afraid of a knock on the door? Nothing can hurt me.. that's only lore.
I got out of the chair, put my hand on the bolt, I'll be a big man, I'll act an adult, I swung open the door and what did I see? My spinster aunt Mary, come to visit me.
Now, here's how I feel 'bout this spinster aunt, She's daddy's young sister. She always says, "Can't" She's the drag of the party..you know the kind, She'll drive you slowly.. out of your mind.
If you love your family as much as I do, There still must be one.. you can do without, too, An apparition might.. have been seen at the door, But I'd rather have 'Appy' than Auntie, for sure.

you scared me there for just a sec
i was thinking he's dead..... oh what the hec
maybe cancer's demons have finally showed
and made norm's heart be truly slow
'tis only your auntie Mary dear
that's okay ...aunt jerri is my little fear......
next time you go blindly to the door
ask who's there to see what's in store
and please don't scare us any more!!!!! |

Dear Norm,
Never realized before that you could be spooky.
But after reading your book, it's only understandable...those ghosts will get you one way or the other...alive, or in your dreams of fodder!
Loved your poems Norm.
