Arm in arm,
We begin to march,
You smile at me,
Peering at the arch.
The march down the aisle,
Going by much to fast,
Your eyes filled with tears,
Your mind, memories of the past.
Throughout my life,
You've given me guidance,
Taught me about love,
Displaying gentle kindness.
You picked me up,
Wiped away my tears,
You held me close,
You relieved me fears.
Giving in, at hearing
"but oh, Daddy please,"
Tying my little shoes,
Kissing my skinned knees.
Starting on a tricycle,
Ending up with a car,
"Remember your seatbelt,
and don't go to far."
"Dad, what do I do?
the tire has no air,"
Explaining to me
The purpose of a spare.
How much oil
does this thing take?
Smiling inside,
Looking down at the lopsided cake.
The time has come
To stand on my own,
Once your little girl,
Now a woman, who's grown.
Letting go of my arm,
Tears you no longer hide,
I'll forever be your daugther,
But today I'll be his bride.
