Brave Knight XXXVII

Contributed by ramfire on Sunday, 11th January 2004 @ 12:04:30 AM in AEST
Topic: StoryPoetry

The children play with freedom games at ease,
court's high walls protect, giving safety seen.
All's glee, with shouting laughter they run, tease,
hearts free, their great enjoyment's very keen.
This bailey's place to muster soldiers mean,
and bowmen having sight that's fine for fight.
Such bows that make attacking foes to scream,
such bows put brave assaulting blades in flight.
For castle eyes retreating horde's a cheering sight.

A tale is told of clashing knights near moat,
when beaten host was fleeing castle late.
In armor bright the castle knights of note,
fast rode out under raised portcullis gate.
Across the lowered way men made good rate
and smote the fleeing knights with glaive and mace.
Now "au secours" was honored right that date,
and vanquished knights left scene with fallen face.
Their lives were saved because of splendid English grace.
