A Poem for Bryan

Contributed by savannah on Thursday, 15th January 2004 @ 11:53:05 PM in AEST
Topic: LoveRemembered

Your hair was short and hers was long
And she was my best friend
You dated her and I met you
You sent me to a friend of yours who kissed me
And who told you all about it
Which made me feel slightly weird around you
But it didn't bother me that much

Then you and she broke up
And your hair was still short
And she was still my best friend
Then you acted in a play that she was in too
I came to see her and saw you also
You winked at me from the stage
And my heart skipped a beat

You asked me to see a movie
With your short hair and my friend unknowing
And I went and we kissed
Starting something new to both of us
That carried us through the month of May
Then summer crept up on us
And you left me, not to return for eleven weeks

Then late August came and you returned
With your hair suddenly longer
A look that my best friend never knew
And I loved the way it looked
And loved having you back with me
As the summer drew to a close I was happy
With you by my side and a sparkle in my eye

We spent two months together
You hair staying long, my friend drifting away
And I tailored your long hair to me
While you were mine, your hair was long
And I ran my fingers through it when we kissed
And we kissed whenever we could
Hoping to smooth over the rough patches we had

Then Novemeber came upon us
A haircut in your future, a change in our midst
You wanted a step back, I wanted a step forward
So instead we each stepped to opposite sides
No one ahead, no one behind
But both of us growing farther apart
Slowly but surely letting our romance go

We've both moved on now
You've got a new girl and you hair is short again
We still talk often, we consider ourselves friends
Our connection has changed but we're the same
We'll both have memories of us and of each other
Yours will be of me as I began to grow up
And mine will be of you when your hair was long

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
