What does Jesus have to do? He has died to save me and you! At Calvarys cross for the lost! Today receive His gift without cost!
Why you may ask call on God? O without Jesus as your Lord! U will not stand that day! Lost forever in the pit you will stay! Do not say no! Call right now, today!
Just call on Jesus this very day! Ever in His care you will forever stay! Should you fall He will set you upon solid ground! U only have to take His hand you have now been found! Should you die before you wake?
Death is no longer a threat to you! O eternal life is what you get anew!

Its a good poem, 'great use of language and wording, but I'm not a really big fan of religious promotive forceful poetry. But that cos I'm an athiest and I'll burn in hell...
Good write (too many exclamation marks, I reckon we get the point now though)

I usually like to keep my comments to structure and what I like about poems, but this is a different case. This poem explains to me that I need to receive Jesus' gift today, it doesn't cost me anything, I take an invisible hand and I'm found, I get a new life, and if I don't accept it I'm goine to stay in a pit.
Why? This poem tells me what to do, but doesn't persuade me; it put's an uncomplicated face to the path to happiness, when I know that life--at least life for me--is much more complicated than that.
This poem uses the catch phrases and jargon of fundamentalist/pentacostal Christianity instead of language that connects to me, the outsider. What does solid ground mean to me? I'm not lost today--I'm at home. Do I use the phone to call on God? What does calling on God mean, exactly?
This poem wasn't t created for the audience who is going to read it. When posting poetry, one should always think about what the audience is going to think/feel when they read posts--If you tell me to accept Jesus without providing reasons that apply to the complexities of my life, I'm probably not going to listen and "follow directions."
Oh, and being a Christian costs--at least 10% of ones income! ;) |
