Ode to a Vampire Bat

Contributed by Butterat_Zool on Monday, 19th January 2004 @ 03:35:03 AM in AEST
Topic: Tributes

Bought as a companion
to take my mind off of
the anal reservations of society
for a while,
youve flown into my life,
and into my heart and my mind
and made my world more lovely.

With you, Ive found happiness,
solace, weakness, and summertime.
Youve flown me through shimmering deserts,
as well as through plague-fallen areas
rotted out by stomach acid and bile
spilled onto the public streets by the rancid gullets
of the dying.

Through you, Ive seen and learned much,
from aerodynamics to anesthesiology,
and all its ever cost me was a few
small payments of blood, though Id
rather consider them tributes.

So once again, I pay my respects
as I celebrate my life and my body
with you, dear vampire.
Heres to your dreams, and heres to your life.

Kind of morbid, but still impressive. I'm morbid myself, when it comes down to it! Good write, as always!

I love the perspective you take on things. I like the juxtaposition (whether intentional or not) of the 'morbid' stanza with the 'lala learning stuff' stanza following it. I love the ending verse.

Must stop using the words "love" and "like" so much. Dammit.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
