A Pop Icon
Captured voices run merciless in my desolate ears My peers, my fans, and my family all want to interject They insist respect, sex and scandal, fame and glory I tell my story: they all listen, they all lie, We all ask why I cant try to explain anymore Im not a hor, Im not a little girl, Im not anything I just sing, I dance, I act, and I entertain I have a name: a million sales, a million fans And a million plans to play hide and go seek I cant meet one or two its thousands a day A week, a month what can I say what do I do? I cant be you I dont want to be me Im everybody in every column in every tabloid Im annoyed, Im terrified, Im dazed and confused Id say Im abused by the media, the paparazzi, the fanatics.
If Im at a club Im a topless dancer, If Im smoking I have lung cancer. If Im dating Im having an affair If Im with friends I cant go anywhere.
I try and stay alive hoping more music is the answer Im a cancer spreading throughout the world Im that girl naked, tortured, and screaming Theres no more dreaming just watching and waiting I cant stop hating! I cant stop wanting! Im not always flaunting Im just like you What would millions do for you today and tomorrow Thered be no need to borrow, no worries, no time Its all mine: I can get anything I want youd think Peace is a blink; a moment in time a sleep at night I think I might, I think I can its then everywhere No one could care except loved ones that share Im over there Im over here & there I go There is no place, there is no privacy, This is no life......
If Im singing Im the worlds radio If Im at a party Im everyones hero If I talk the media will intrude If I yell will I not be considered rude?
Can you be good all the time? Make no mistakes No heart breaks, no kiss to tell Is this hell is it worth the money Its not funny, its not real, its not my life If Im a wife, Im pregnant, and If I die My family will cry, my fans will ask why But the media will try to make my legacy continue A book review: my past lovers, my first time My innocent crime my friends fears My first loves tears theyll never let go Im an echo in an empty concert hall A shadow on the wall, a star in the sky All I wanted was to try and make people dance Put them in a trance make them my audience With persistence I got their Im here now.
Im every little girls fantasy: thank you Im every mans fantasy too. Im one of the best selling artists in history Im a pop icon with her story.
