Happy Was What They Had

When I say my little prayer for you, In hopes it will reach right through, I'm helpless, so I'm helping, You. I've yet to come upon my date, The date to seal my death-stained fate, But until that day shall come upon, I'm searching for the next eve's pawn. Is happiness to the scale to measure, For a life of love, peace, pleasure? It seems it's so to those who don't know, But to me it's entirely new. Because until they see what happy really means, I'm left to weep for them, Trapped in a shell of protection, Looking for distinction, Between happy and sad... Before they began their search, Happy was what they had.
