serious looks and smoke rings
gave away your intentions
no need to say good-bye
when the time comes you'll leave
in a cloud of dust
I'll watch until all traces of you fade away
tip your hat, always the gentleman
I thought I might have won this hand
obviously not, the cards worn and dirty
too many players and too little time
water rings on the table drying out
well past midnight when I fold
logic is not part of the game
feelings replace common sense
the ripple of a breeze entices me
to step into your arms for warmth
and we discover how good it feels
to hold onto each other for a time
the firing of guns and the chaos of hooves
drag us apart, wakened from our lethargy
this is the end you've been waiting for
I can see the excitement in your eyes
as the bullet rips through your heart
and I hear myself scream your name
