Affair

________________________________
anticipation runs across my lips
my nervous tongue
i bite my lip
what will he be like in person
when at last we finally meet
this affair has gone full blown
i have left my happy home
and traveled all day long
just to be with him
for a little while
a weekend

my heart is pounding in my breast
when he walks towards me
his eyes are bluer than i had guessed
his open arms are an invitation
how long have i waited for this
his mouth on mine
the world a blur
a kiss

we talk, we eat, we walk the streets
and then we are in each other's arms
he feels like a dream to me
I want to cry, I want to laugh
love like this it cannot last
and I cannot live without him
we make love for hours
asleep

the airport bar is crowded
red-eye flights and business travelers
i hold onto him afraid to let go
his fingers reassuring, entwine with mine
we mirror the fears in each other's eyes
i must go back to my own life
and he has obligations too,
a wife

so many hours we talked and talked
i know him from the inside out
and he has listened to my woes
offered to kindly massage my toes
made me laugh when i wanted to cry
and now we have made love
in perfect harmony, body and soul
an affair

If a bloke even thought of that the world would be down on him like a ton of bricks. It is us married men that suffer from the Lackanookie syndrome,is this the reason why?
